The Faculty of Medicine is one of eight faculties at Lund University and the Department of Health Sciences is one of six departments at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. The department encompasses education and research within health science in close collaboration with general health care, regional authorities and the surrounding society. The research group “Participation, ageing and everyday life” is one of 12 research groups at the department and its research focus is older people and people with mainly physical and cognitive disabilities and their home situation. This includes intervention evaluations and longitudinal studies as well as psychometric development of methodology.
INRCA – ISTITUTO NAZIONALE DI RIPOSO E CURA PER ANZIANI
The National Institute of Health and Science on Ageing (INRCA – Istituto Nazionale di Riposo e Cura per Anziani) is a public national organization based in Ancona, with branches operating in three Italian Regions (Lombardy in the North, Marche in the Centre and Calabria in the South) in form of geriatric hospitals, residential care facilities, an Alzheimer day care centre and Research Units. INRCA’s mission is twofold: to provide health and long-term care to older people; and to carry out basic, applied and theoretical research on longevity and ageing related issues. INRCA has the goal of carrying out an integrated and multi-disciplinary research on ageing and care of the older population, adopting different perspectives: clinical, biological and socio-economic. This last component is performed in particular by the Centre for Socio-Economic Research on Ageing (CRESI), which conducts interdisciplinary gerontological research with the main aim of contributing to a more holistic understanding of the ageing process from a demographic, social, economic and political perspective, in addition to the traditional geriatric clinical research and in a translational perspective.
ATHENS ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION
Athens Association of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 by carers of people with dementia and health care professionals interested in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). It aims at promoting awareness, care and support for everyone in anyway related to the disease. The organization activities include memory clinics, non-pharmacological treatments for people with dementia, training, counselling and support for carers, training of doctors and other healthcare professionals, lectures on human memory and dementia for lay people, dementia screening and prevention programs in the community, publication of newsletters, factsheets and booklets and liaising with the community.
Virtual Campus is a development, training and consulting SME in the areas of Information Systems and Technology Enhanced Learning. Located in Porto, North Portugal, Virtual Campus is a spin-off from the research and work developed at the R&D group GILT, from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto. Virtual Campus has successfully produced multimedia e-learning contents and serious games for different platforms (desktops, mobile, tablet), in different environments (online, standalone) for different purposes (vocational training, emergency services, higher education, secondary education) and in different scopes (european projects, client contracts).
Tech4Care srl is an innovative Italian start-up and spin-out SME of the Polytechnic University of Marche (Italy). Tech4Care is based in Ancona and was founded in December 2015 by a group of healthcare researchers wishing to facilitate the transfer of innovation from research projects to real practice. T4C staff is composed by an interdisciplinary group of 8 professionals from social sciences, engineering, and nursing with expertise and specific competence on health and technological research, development, practice and training. Currently, Tech4Care aims to develop innovative programmes for supporting vulnerable and frail people in their daily life, allowing them to live more independently and to manage their health condition at best. Tech4Care has specific competence on addressing needs of mature and older people with chronic illnesses, by tailoring innovative packages of professional care and support together with new technologies for assisted living, monitoring, self-management, health education and rehabilitation.
